The largest problem facing churches today is that attendance and tithing are both down. Currently, 73% of the U.S. identifies as Christian, but only 31% of them are practicing faith in a church. Barna Research did a study on this phenomenon and found that,
“Almost half (46%) attend a church of 100 or fewer members. More than one-third (37%) attend a mid size church of over 100, but not larger than 499. One in 11 (9%) attends a church with between 500 and 999 attenders, and slightly fewer (8%) attend a very large church of 1,000 or more attendees”.
Only 55% of those who are considered “practicing” are going on a weekly basis. Why? Convenience.
