Background:

The City of Decatur, TX, recently opened a new “smart police station” designed to improve efficiency, accessibility, and community engagement. As part of this modern facility, the police department wanted to automate routine administrative tasks and streamline visitor management in order to reduce staff workload while providing secure, convenient service to the public.

Business Challenge:

  • Front desk staff frequently interrupted by routine service requests

  • Citizens experienced delays for tasks like payments and records access

  • Manual visitor check-in created bottlenecks and limited security oversight

  • The department needed a solution that would match its new facility’s modern design while setting the standard for a future-ready police station

Solutions Delivered:

Advanced Kiosks deployed two integrated self-service systems:

  • Lobby Kiosk – Kiosk Office Suite Extension
    Enables citizens to access records, submit documents, and pay fines or utility bills independently.

  • Wall-Mounted Kiosk – Greeter Visitor Management System
    Manages visitor check-ins, prints badges, and registers officers for training sessions — all while maintaining lobby security.

The Advanced Kiosks onboarding team partnered with key players from the Decatur PD staff to scope the project, configure the kiosks, provide staff training, and ensure smooth adoption during the new station’s grand opening.

Outcomes:

  • Expanded public service delivery through secure self-service

  • Reduced administrative burden on front desk staff

  • Faster citizen access to payments, records, and forms

  • Improved visitor management with intuitive check-in experience

  • A model for “smart police station” design that other agencies can replicate
