Fallen Heroes and Veterans Day

On October 12th, 1954, President Eisenhower issued a proclamation that established Veterans Day as a national holiday. Created as an extension of World War 1’s Armistice Day, Veterans Day was put forward as a day when the nation could come together and celebrate fallen heroes and service members of every branch since the time of the nation’s founding.

“On that day, let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain.” (President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1954)

For the men and women of 1954, who had seen three major wars in less than 40 years, it was hoped that the yearly day of remembrance would serve as a constant reminder of the supreme importance of diplomacy and peace.

Flash forward 63 years and Americans of every background, color, and creed are still setting aside November 11th as a day to bow our collective heads and pay homage to the men and women answered the call and put the country first. From the colonial militiamen who stood at the ready to defend Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, to the heroes who liberated Europe from the forces of fascism, to the men and women in uniform who are protecting America today, Veterans Day was and has remained an annual day of immortality for the institution of the American soldier.

It was with all of this in mind that Advanced Kiosks teamed up with the Massachusetts Fallen Hero Memorial in 2011 to develop a one-of-a-kind kiosk solution that would enable memorials and cemeteries to build a living anthology for America’s veterans. Dubbed Fallen Heroes, the program uses service records, newspaper clippings, photographs, and information supplied by families to give organizations the digital building blocks to assemble an individualized eternal memorial for each veteran.

Fallen Heroes wasn’t built with the intent to be redistributed again, but an overwhelming request from multiple memorials has emboldened us to redevelop this into a platform that can be customized and reused by any organization.

Fallen Heroes Interactive memorial software is a web based application. This means you can complement an existing traditional memorial with an indoor, or outdoor kiosk, creating an on-site interactive memorial with one of our kiosk models. The style, background image and Fallen Heroes content is easily managed with a user-friendly content management system that does not require a technical Guru to configure.

The Fallen Heroes software interface is easily customized to accommodate any branch of service, group colors, branding or logos. The Advanced Kiosks built in software allows the user to easily administrate and update the content as needed.

  • Customize colors, branding and graphics
  • Easy to update and add content and pictures
