About Us: History
History of Advanced Kiosks
Advanced Kiosks has been a leader and innovator in the self-service computer kiosk industry for over 20 years. Our history began in early 2000 when Founder & President Howard Horn II established engineering firm H32 Design and Development (H32).
In 2003, after a few initial kiosk projects, the company responded to increasing demand by adding computer kiosk design to its menu of services. Soon, the self-service kiosk market became our primary focus, and Advanced Kiosks was born.
2000
Howard Horn Builds His Garage
With degrees in mechanical and industrial engineering, Horn had worked for United Technologies, Lockheed Martin Space, and the FAA (just to name a few). Now, he was thinking of striking out on his own.
His new garage (complete with cellar office) at his home in Wilmot, NH, would soon become the first work space for his engineering projects and start-up company.
H32 is born
Howard Horn II founds his engineering company H32 Design & Development LLC, which designs and develops custom laboratory equipment for researchers.
This labor of love was launched with the helpful assistance of Howard’s two young sons.
2002
Contract with AT&T
Two years later, H32 designs a kiosk for CMD Industries to fulfill a contract with AT&T. This was a large order and a real game-changer for the young company.
2003
MBTA Kiosk Project
H32 wins Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) self service kiosk project for commuter/ tourism kiosk installation.
This demanding project inspired the design of the first Transit Kiosk model. Ideal for high-risk locations like subway stations, outdoor public venues or corrections facilities, nothing compares to the quality, performance and rugged durability of the Transit Kiosk.
2004

Enviro Kiosk Conquers the Great Outdoors
The Enviro was the first outdoor kiosk. Designed for extreme climates — from dry, harsh deserts to windy, frozen tundras — what little competition it has still pales in comparison.
In the same year, Advanced Kiosks introduced its LobbyAttendant® software.
2008
MBTA Kiosk Project
The LobbyAttendant® software release signified the birth of Advanced Kiosks’ kiosk software development division. Years of experience meeting kiosk clients’ needs compelled our engineers to design and deliver innovative kiosk software solutions. This merger of custom, quality hardware and software is ultimately what sets us apart from the rest.
