- Industry: Higher Education / Museum & Cultural Exhibits
- Products: Custom Interactive Interface
- Kiosk Models: Freestanding Kiosk
Background
The New York State Department of Health partnered with Advanced Kiosks to create an interactive digital memorial honoring Emergency Medical Services professionals who lost their lives in the line of duty. The New York State EMS Memorial provides a permanent, accessible tribute allowing families, colleagues, and the public to browse, search, and learn about each honoree through a modern touchscreen experience.
The project required a custom-built interface tailored specifically to the exhibitās collection, transforming what would otherwise be a passive viewing experience into an immersive, self-guided educational journey.
Business Challenge
- The exhibit needed a way to provide deeper educational context without relying on printed signage or staff-guided tours
- Visitors could not easily see or understand details on all sides of enclosed display pieces
- The Foundation required an interactive platform capable of delivering video content tied to specific elements of each artifact
- The system needed to be intuitive enough for visitors of all ages and technical backgrounds
- Content had to remain updatable as the exhibit evolves or new pieces are added
Solution Delivered
Advanced Kiosks designed and built a fully custom interactive kiosk interface for the ENMU-Ruidoso exhibit, featuring:
- Branded attract/start screen with video introduction about the artist
- Figure selection menu allowing visitors to choose which physical artifact to explore (e.g., āMedicine Woman,ā āMaidenā)
- Multi-angle view selection (Front, Right, Rear, Left) enabling visitors to digitally āwalk aroundā the piece
- Interactive hotspot interface with labeled tap targets (e.g., āNecklaces,ā āBlanketā) that trigger targeted educational videos
- Bite-sized video content explaining the cultural and artistic significance of individual design elements
- Custom WordPress/Divi-based interface built and managed through the Advanced Kiosks platform
The system was designed to complement, not replace, the physical exhibit, giving visitors the freedom to explore at their own pace while uncovering layers of meaning they might otherwise miss.
Outcome
The interactive kiosk transforms a traditional exhibit viewing into an engaging, self-directed learning experience. Visitors can explore each artifact from multiple angles and discover the cultural significance of specific design details through short educational videos.
For the ENMU-Ruidoso Foundation, the platform provides a modern, low-maintenance way to enhance exhibit engagement and deliver educational content without requiring additional staff. The systemās flexible architecture also supports future expansion as new pieces or exhibits are introduced.
